Summer Fun and Another Trip Around the Sun

I like to acknowledge my birthday by doing some kind of physical feat. This year it was doing a backflip off my husband’s shoulders into the lake near my dad’s house. This was only after the death-defying feat of doing a backflip in to a pool for the first time when I was 29. I could not bear the thought of turning 30 without having accomplished this. I know, I’m a late bloomer.

I am so lucky (or unlucky depending on how you look at it) to have business drop to levels so low in August that I get a ridiculous amount of time away from work. In some ways I struggle with it. Shouldn’t I be doing something? Who do I think I am? But I remind myself that summer is fleeting and life is short. If not now, then when?

We are currently having one heck of a heatwave in Southern Ontario. These are the days I dreamed of all year as a child and I plan to be in the water, on the water or near the water for as much of it as possible. Before we know it, the days will be getting shorter, the nights will be getting cooler and this year I will be heading back to school with all the youngsters as a yoga therapy student. My back-to-school shopping will include my very first filing cabinet on wheels!
