I like to have flexibility in my schedule and greet each day as it comes to me, but I am really strict with myself when it comes to getting outside on days with sunshine.
When I see sunlight, I make time to absorb it no matter what my plans are that day.
Doesn’t matter if I feel like it or not.
Doesn’t matter where I go.
Doesn’t matter what I do.
Doesn’t matter how long.
I always get out.
Where I live north of Toronto, we have many days with a UV of 0 and it can tank my mood, energy and focus like nothing else. It feels like we can go a whole month without a drop of sun. Even if I’m stuck at work I make an excuse to take out the garbage, salt the driveway or look busy near a window.
Why is soaking up the sun one of my non-negotiables? Is it the sun-kissed glow? Heck no!
Plain and simple, I see a return on my investment. Habits are a hot topic and every successful person loves to tell you that you need to get hooked on the habit that works for them. Ice baths, protein coffee, red light… you name it. They all start to sound a bit superstitious if you ask me. And yet here I am with my superstition: I need to recharge with solar energy.
Here’s my challenge to you: What is your high return on investment habit? What can you put very little effort in to that gives you a worthwhile return?
Before you start beating yourself up about your resolutions, maybe you’re not sticking to them because there’s no return on your investment. Sometimes silly little things like more frequent coffee dates with an uplifting friend or taking the extra minute to choose a piece of jewelry can have a huge effect on your vitality. My new 2026 ROI habit is tidying my desk daily after dinner. What a difference it has made to my productivity and enjoyment even though it seems like a waste of time.
In 2026, my challenge to you is to find a simple, straightforward action item that gives you a boost. ![]()

You look amazing in that photo! π
I really relate to this. I used to make long to-do lists every New Year to stay focused, but now I prefer more flexibility and just do things when I feel called to.
One thing Iβve noticed, though, is that I do have non-negotiable habits. Taking care of my skin is one of them. After every shower, I always apply body lotion. Itβs a small habit, but the return on investment is huge, especially as we get older. My room is also my sanctuary, so tidying it daily is another high-ROI habit for me. It instantly affects my mood and focus. π
